Hey Folks,

Why do you join the Raleigh Wake County IRA Reading Council every year? If you are like me you join because you get to hear and learn about a variety of authors, different educational and literacy ideas, earn renewal credit, as well as help our community and enjoy good company! In order for the council to continue to exist we need members to step up and be willing leaders within the council as well as to be active members. Only with your continued active support will the council be able to continue to thrive and grow.

It is that time of year again! The council needs someone willing to be our Vice President. At our last meeting the duties of the Vice President were distributed; however, the President, President Elect, Treasurer, and Secretary all work together and help each other so no one job is daunting. It’s scary to have a three year commitment but working with a team makes those years enjoyable and much less scary. Anita Stack will be our president next year as Jean House rotates off; however, both experienced ladies have promised to be there to help and guide those of us stepping into the “new shoes” of council leadership in the coming years.

So, what are some benefits to you if you decide you are interested?

1.     A free trip to the N.C. Reading Association Leadership Conference.

2.     A free trip to Boone for the conference. This year this trip will include a dinner at the Daniel Boon Inn and to see the outdoor drama Horn of the West.

3.     Being able to complete some sections in standard one of our new state evaluation system.

4.     Being able to have a voice in the planning of speakers and workshops.

5.     Working with other people as interested and passionate about literacy as you are.

6.     Growing as an educator and as a person.

Please e-mail Jean jhouse52@bellsouth.net or Anita anita.stack@gmail.com and let them know of your willingness to help our council.
